ITC services regarding ROHS 3

Since July 22, 2019 „RoHS 3“ (2015/863/EC) updated of so called “RoHS 2” directive (No. 2011/65/EC) will come in force, laying down extended requirements on electric and electronic devices.

Except for heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr VI+) and polybrominated flame retardants (PBBs and PDEs) four phthalic acid esters (phthalates) were newly added:
Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, Butyl benzyl phthalate, Di butyl phthalate a Di iso butyl phthalate in the amount, not exceeded 0,1 w/w % in mass of homogenous material.
Problematic can be thus PVC softened material, like cable insulations then paintings, glues and softened plastics.

Online access to Toyota standard database

Upon agreement with TOYOTA company Institute for Testing and Certification, inc. got direct access to the database of Toyota standards, which are relevant to testing of automotive components, intended to TOYOTA cars. We believe that this step forward helps to perform better services towards you – our clients.

COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2020/1245 of 2nd September 2020 amending and correcting Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food entered into force on 23rd September 2020

This regulation has significantly changed the scope of evaluation of elements and primary aromatic amines and the way of evaluation of articles for repeated use – HERE you can find more information. ITC labs are already prepared to test and evaluate the articles according to new rules.

new ICP spectrometer in ITC labs

Analytical laboratory has recently purchased new ICP spectrometer Agilent 5800. The spectrometer is intended for determination of elements in water solutions, leachates and mineralisates. It is used mainly for evaluation of food-contact materials, products for children, material analysis of plastics, rubbers and metals. Spectrometer can be also used for determination of elements, which are limited in electro-products by RoHS 3 directive. High sensitivity enable evaluation of products according to many national and European legislations.  


DETERMINATION OF INDIVIDUAL ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOC) AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE EMITTED COMPOUNDS BY GC-MS/FID

In autumn 2019 our laboratory of analytical chemistry purchased gas chromatograph Shimadzu GCMS QP 2020 NX with mass spectromecter and flame ionization detector, which is used for analysis of emission of organic substances (VOC) mainly for automotive materials.

Determination of VOC by this method meets the requirements:
- VW 50180 (CLP classification of VOC emission in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 included)
- PV 3341
- VDA 277
- VCS 1027,2759


Laboratory is on the List of accepted service laboratories by the VW Group for test according to PV 3341!

The laboratory of defectoscopy is a department of the institute for testing and certification that, as accredited testing laboratory No. 1004, offers specialized services in the field of characterizing defects in materials and measurement of the factors influencing the formation of defects. Using the available expertise of modern science and technology, it is possible, to provide expert forecasting and prevention further defect development. The specialized services of the defectoscopy laboratory are based on many years experience in the areas of research and development (R&D) on polymeric materials and analytical science.

SERVICES OF THE LABORATORY OF DEFECTOSCOPY

  • Identification the nature of defects
    • using special techniques - thermal desorption  GC-MS, direct inlet-MS, pyrolysis GC-MS demonstrating a very high success rate in the analysis of defects
    • basic analyses of elements to trace their concentration, using XRF, ICP-OES spectroscopy, ICP-MS spectroscopy and AAS
    • chromatography and separation sciences, fully equipped with the current GC and HPLC systems using multiple injection and detection systems
    • special testing offered by the Physical Testing Laboratory (vibration tests, flammability, resistance tests, ageing tests, electrostatics)
  • Measurement of influencing parameters
    • identification and assessment of the parameters influencing the origine of defects
    • defining defects occurring in the production process by adapting analytical conditions on requested parameters
    • diagnosis defining the optimisation of process parameters and prevention of defects
    • to serve customers as an analytical laboratory for research and development (R&D)
  • Prediction and prevention of defects
    • using scientific resources of the ITC (equipment, researchers) together with the technical resources of customers according to their individual requirements can lead to defect prevention
    • cooperation with individual customers with the aim of determining the optimal technological procedures for the production process
    • consulting services of the ITC for preventing the formation of defects with the aim of optimising future process costs
