Interlaboratory comparison measurements for the assessment of organic emissions according to Volkswagen Group standards
During spring/summer of 2021 ITC laboratory took a part in round robin comparison for emission tests of car interior materials according to Volkswagen standards, namely fogging, organic carbon emission and odour test acc. PV 3015, PV 3900 and PV 3341.
The round robin test was organised by German institute DRRR (Deutsches Referenzbüro für Ringversuche und Referenz¬materialien). Laboratory of ITC had performed very well in this comparison, with “great success” in all tested parameters.

Information on emission behavior tests according to the VW Group's VW 50180 standard for car interior parts
Dear clients, we would like to inform you that the VW Group requires the following approach for testing according to VW 50180 (emission behaviour of interior materials):
The requirements of the VW Group for this type of test must be followed. A list of approved laboratories for this type of test is available at www.vwgroupsupply.com/b2bpub/. ITC, as one of the approved laboratories for these tests, is obliged to follow the information it has received from the VW Group.
If the evaluated parts you send to us are intended for initial type approval (BMG - Baumustergenehmigung) and / or initial sample testing (EMP - Erstmusterprüfung), please inform us of this fact, as this affects the entire testing process, including pricing.
If you require VW 50180 emission tests for all other purposes, such as retesting, annual re-tests, regular quality control, etc., the process is slightly different from BMG and / or EMP tests.
We also need to know in advance if you want to determine carbon emissions according to the PV3341 standard only as total carbon, or if you also require emissions of individual organic substances. The performance of the test differs, both in terms of the instruments used, but mainly in the method of evaluation.

COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2020/1245 of 2nd September 2020 amending and correcting Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food entered into force on 23rd September 2020

new X-ray fluorescence spectrometer RIGAKU NEX DE VS
The ITC Zlín laboratories put into operation a new X-ray fluorescence spectrometer RIGAKU NEX DE VS.
The instrument is designed for elemental analysis in solid and liquid matrices in the sodium-uranium range and is used mainly for the prove of the presence of heavy metals in products.
Heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and similar, are limited by various legislations, such as REACH, RoHS (electrical products), as well as these elements are limited in food contact products and toys.
The new spectrometer replaced old spectrometer Oxford Instruments ED2000Ag from 1998, which served a respectable 22 years.

Conformity assessment - Filtering half masks to procect against particles
With effect from 18.07.2020, ITC extended the scope of notification to perform the activities of Notified Body No. 1023 for the assessment of products under Act 90/2016 and under Regulation 2016/425/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council regarding to personal protective equipment for "Equipment providing respiratory system protection - Filtering half masks to procect against particles and conformity assessment procedures / modules referred to in Article 19 (b), (c) to (i) of Annexes V and VII to the Directive 2016/425/EU: "EU type-examination (Module B) - Annex V"; "Conformity to type based on internal production control plus supervised product checks at random intervals (Module C2) - Annex VII ".

new ICP spectrometer in ITC labs
Analytical laboratory has recently purchased new ICP spectrometer Agilent 5800. The spectrometer is intended for determination of elements in water solutions, leachates and mineralisates. It is used mainly for evaluation of food-contact materials, products for children, material analysis of plastics, rubbers and metals. Spectrometer can be also used for determination of elements, which are limited in electro-products by RoHS 3 directive. High sensitivity enable evaluation of products according to many national and European legislations.
New tests of medical and personal protection equipments have been accredited in testing laboratory No. 1004 from 16.6.2020

DETERMINATION OF INDIVIDUAL ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOC) AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE EMITTED COMPOUNDS BY GC-MS/FID
In autumn 2019 our laboratory of analytical chemistry purchased gas chromatograph Shimadzu GCMS QP 2020 NX with mass spectromecter and flame ionization detector, which is used for analysis of emission of organic substances (VOC) mainly for automotive materials.
Determination of VOC by this method meets the requirements:
- VW 50180 (CLP classification of VOC emission in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 included)

New tests for measurement of formaldehyde emissions
Laboratories of ITC offers newly accredited test of formaldehyde emission by the chamber method, based on standard EN 717-1.
The procedure covers mainly following products:
• wood products for which the formaldehyde emission by the chamber method is required
• building materials for which the legislation requires chamber test for formaldehyde emission
• newly, the in resin-bonded wood toy materials according to new Commission Directive (EU) 2019/1929 of 19 November 2019 amending Appendix C to Annex II to Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council for the purpose of adopting specific limit values for chemicals used in certain toys, as regards formaldehyde

laboratories of ITC can offer you a new service in the field of static and dynamic testing on tensile tester Instron 8503, which can be run in static or dynamic mode.
Machine has load capacity 250 kN (25 tons) and frame size up to 5 meters (see photo). The machine is intended for testing of big samples, nevertheless (regarding to the compatibility of measuring heads) it is possible to measure not only big loads, but also big samples with loads, starting at 100 N.

New Mar resistence test equipment in ITC Zlin
Physical laboratory of ITC Zlin newly offers a possibility of special Mar resistance testing. This test simulates light scratching (e.g. by nails) at finished plastic parts of car interior. The criterium for evaluation is change in gloss before and after test. This new machine fully coresponds with requirements of specification PV 3974 (VW specification) or TPJLR 52.010 (Jaguar Land Rover specification) and others which are set on similar basis.
Depending on free capacity of the lab and number of tested specimens, the test could be finished within one week after receiving purchase order from our client.

Since July 22, 2019 „RoHS 3“ (2015/863/EC) updated of so called “RoHS 2” directive (No. 2011/65/EC) will come in force, laying down extended requirements on electric and electronic devices.
Except for heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr VI+) and polybrominated flame retardants (PBBs and PDEs) four phthalic acid esters (phthalates) were newly added:
Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, Butyl benzyl phthalate, Di butyl phthalate a Di iso butyl phthalate in the amount, not exceeded 0,1 w/w % in mass of homogenous material.
Problematic can be thus PVC softened material, like cable insulations then paintings, glues and softened plastics.

The European Associtiation for Medical devices of Notified Bodies (TEAM NB) on web site, in the section "Latest News", published on December 14, 2018 a document called "White Paper: One Year of Application" summarizing the current situation in area of preparation / transfer of notified bodies to the new legislation regarding to Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) and In-Vitro Medical Devices Regulation (IVDR).
new gas chromatograph in laboratory of analytical chemistry
In August 2018 our laboratory of analytical chemistry purchased a brand new gas chromatograph, mass spectrometer Shimadzu GCMS-QP2020, equipped by a thermal desorption unit TD-30, which is used for analysis of emissions of organic substances.
The spectrometer has a superior sensitivity for organic substances in orders of micro-grams per kg of sample. The system is mainly used for analysis of volatile organic substances (VOC) and condensable substances (FOG) according to the requirements of automotive standard VDA 278, but also for emission measurement of polymer samples to investigate additive system, smell, NIAS (not-intentionally added substances in plastics) etc.

Determination of phthalic acid esters according to requirements of CPSC
In June 2018 analytical laboratory ITC accredited new procedure for determination of phthalic acid esters in consumer products according to requirements of CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) No. CPSC-CH-C1001-09.4. New standard came in force on April 25, 2018 and released old one No. CPSC-CH-C1001-09.3.

At the beginning of 2018 department of analytical chemistry purchased brand new liquid chromatograph with tandem mass spectrometry Shimadzu LC-MS/MS 8045, which is used for trace analysis of organic substances. Spectrometer has superior sensitivity for organic substances in orders of nano-grams per litre of sample. In June first analytical procedures successfully passed accreditation after the validation. New method for determination of organometallic complexes
Our analytical laboratory has implemented new method for determination of organometallic complexes (i.e. alkyl mercury) by cation chromatography, coupled to ICP-MS detection.
